  • Olá! Como estão

Hi, guys! There’s been a long time for me to post anything on this blog. So to start with, I’d like to have some brief introduction like what I’ve been doing recently. Starting from the middle of May until late June, I’d been having my exams in my faculty, both papers and oral part. It’s a torture I meant, lasting for more or less one month’s time. It was really long enough that I couldn’t even figure out when it would end. But gradually, it’s over at the date of 21st of June - The day which all of our marks were released.

    I’m safe XD

In this July, I’ve joined the Portuguese summer class organized by the FSH. It’s really nice to have such classes provided for students, esp. in the summer time, although at first it’s difficult to catch, I believe it’s gonna be okay later on.

Besides, these days the weather is really hot enough. Some of my classmates are not feeling well because of this tough weather, and me too, whereas I also had a sick leave yesterday. So it’s recommendable to drink more water and take good rest.

Every day morning my class starts sharp at nine. There’re lots of students from other places and countries, like South Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam. All of them are excellent, almost all of them are major in Portuguese literature or Portuguese language. They’re pro while we’re just amateurs. But it doesn’t matter ‘cause we really learn a lot from them, both technically and spiritually. Their attitudes and efforts in their studies impressed me.

There’s still a long way to go.

This summer...LET’S…Work hard, play hard XDDD

Missin’ all of you, my HC mates ^U^

  • 21th April, 2010 - HONR 202 Our tenth lecture

This afternoon we had the forum series again in JLG floor, while this time our topic is about the unfortunate coal mine incident happened in China recently.

    210420102116

We divide ourselves into groups to brainstorm ideas and opinions on relative aspects, and have quite a deep and broad discussion over several areas on this theme. Within the forum, we had questions and debate part, and I enjoy the most in the first part, maybe because the debate is put at second part out of the activities, so we don’t have enough time to finish it thoroughly and rush to go through. Therefore, I think this should take into consideration next time in organizing the forum series and other talks.

    210420102125 210420102129 210420102138

We are asked to play role in the head of the safety department of China, whereas we have to plan and establish much tighter regulations over the safety and running of those mines in China. This is quite a knot in which the Chinese officials have to face at the same time in mainland China. After lots of catastrophes in these few years, Chinese Government should reinforce their supervisions and verifications on industries, factories and all kinds of production processes, since for natural disasters are already out of human control, we should work harder to prevent any incidences occurred to those areas which can under our control and can be prevented beforehand if enough precautions have been taken. For my point of view, I absolutely disagree a way of gaining profits and economic progress in terms of human lives. Human lives are invaluable and should be always put in the first position no matter what and where. There should be nothing that we have to sacrifice human lives to obtain.

Coming after is the regular lesson for Honors College students with our Prof. Udani.

    210420102148

    210420102150

Prof. Udani shares with us a list of students’ expectations and all these were written by us far before this semester began. In several parts, most of us have the same motives and goals. With identical objectives, it brings us together in a class, in a group where we can support one another. We can give help and advices to others, we are on the same way, having the same goal among us. Isn’t this felling great and amazing? It’s not an easy stuff for 41 students from different majors and faculties to come together and have lessons every week. It’s undoubtedly marvelous for faculties to arrange time tables suitable for all of us, and actually not only us, there are still many people working very hard behind to fix up things for our College, like our faculty coordinators, our HC staffs and professors. Therefore, not only there are 41 of us, in fact there are more than 41 of us are working together on our way.

It seems that we are in a family of quite a big size ^^

    That’s magnificent.

After entering into the Honors College, there come lots of changes.  I’m glad I have this big big family to be with=]

  • 14th April, 2010 - HONR 202 Our ninth lecture

Time flied, just in a blink of an eye, it comes to April when we will have exams next month, so actually we don’t have much time left. Friends, grasp the time and carry a strong will. We, work hard to gain, then work hard to win. ^^

Far before we had our dialogue series, we had our Dean of the Honors College to give us some brief introduction on our studying abroad program. Prof. Mok had been going around these days in U.S. to all those potential colleges and universities to have meetings with the rectors and board there, asking if they had any interest in coordinating with us to hold this program. As our anticipation, there are a number of universities that would like to take part in this program, offering us opportunities to have an American Life next year. Nevertheless, we were informed that we still had to take some English language exams opened especially for international students, i.e. those who are not native speakers in the language of English. It’s so sad that we have to prepare these tests in this coming summer holidays, but I believe that we can do it.

We are Honors College Students. Believe we can, so we can.

Later on, Prof. Udani seized a short time to brainstorm us. From the beginning, he had reminded us to discover our talents. Everyone is so unique and gifted. We should put more efforts in discovering our talents and merits. At the same time, we have to be optimistic and own strong wills in achieving goals. Then, Prof. Udani showed us a video – A really great surprise to all of us!

    140420102092

We were all shocked because we did not expect a video recording our presentations were being well-cut and then shown in the class. But, it’s true we were all joyful to see this which naturally made all of us smile. I had to confess these were all precious moments among us and unforgettable memories deep inside our hearts.

    140420102093

Then, we had Dr. Wong King Keung, one of the founders of our University to be our guest for the Honors Forum Dialogue series. It is our pleasure to have him to share his opinions and views with us, the prospective leaders in the future, which helped to broaden our horizons.

    140420102107

    140420102096

Dr. Wong had been participating in various fields in the society, thus we could get a general and extensive concept on the overall economy and globe. Moreover, we could learn from his attitudes, manners and other qualities.

    140420102110

Whereas Dr. Wong just had his eye surgery done last week, in fact he was not felling well, but he still came to give us a lecture, sharing his valuable life experiences with students. I really appreciated his attitude on weighing stuffs in preferences, and also to his sense of farsightedness. How he dealt with all his stuffs and affairs is also a part that I have to learn from him.

    140420102111

Within the talk, he told us to bear this in mind, that is once you have got to a certain position and altitude, you should have a conscience in contributing back to the society and community. I totally agreed with his saying as I also take this as my responsibility. I want to offer more for our next generations and to those helped me in the past. I take this as my turn. I firmly believe this is a continuous process that has to be carried out generations to generations while none of us can and should have to escape from it.

Last of all, one more reminder is HUMBLENSS - a basis of a true leader =]

  • 8th April, 2010 - HONR 202 Our eighth lecture

Every day will be a brand new day for all of us to start, whereas a brand new way is awaiting us.

Today, Prof. Udani first showed us a video which was a famous fairy tale known as the Beauty and the Beast to warm us up. In fact, when I was small, I had watched this film for so many times that I could hardly forget every detail of it, thus when I came to the scene again, I felt so familiar with it ^^

    070420102029

Yes, maybe everyone will think it was weird for a graceful lady to accompany a breast which was not the usual script written in those fairy tales. But I think that was the key point the author would like the readers to recognize and understand – beauty needs not to equal to everything. Sometimes we simply repel people in a way of odd behaviors or nasty acts just because they are not good looking enough, or merely we don’t like them at all. However, that’s why we are usually cheated by those with splendid and dazzled outer appearances, misleading us to head to the wrong ways.

Sometimes, or I have to say, ALWAYS, we judge one by his or her dressing and exterior, then we rashly jump to the conclusion by skipping steps and determine one’s image in our hearts self-righteously. Isn’t it too apparent that we should doubt of? Nonetheless, human beings still behave like this. Even we have been cheated and fooled so badly so many times in the past by those called us friends, yet we choose to stand for them again and again, leaving those wholehearted ones behind. At that time, we looked as if we were blind, or even much worse than that because the blinds can still determine more objectively than us since they don’t rely on outer figures.

Therefore, from now on, focus more on the internal beauty, especially pay more attention to those we seldom notice in our ordinary days. Leadership is not only to lead, but also to ensure development of internal beauty and guide others to follow our steps.

Share and Care - I have to bear in mind.

(once more time…I have to say…A little matter can do great change….XDDD)

S - Carry Smiles on your faces.

H - Help when you can give.

A - Advise and listen to advice, they are feedbacks.

    R - Partake of Resources.

E - Open your Ears to others, and don’t shut them up…=...=

With all these tips, getting closer and building strong relationship among teams is not by chance, but a must!!!

We should understand that successful leaders bring good impacts on their fellows, and most of the time in positive influences.

    070420102040

Moreover, today Prof. Udani had played a trick with us….O,,O He had prepared a box for lucky draw with slips of paper, but actually none of our names were written on them, and neither any of us had recognized this except Janice. (WOW...an astonishing sixth sense..)

We were suddenly asked to prepare a brief sharing for more or less 30 seconds. Nearly all of us had to do so, sharing our motivations and thoughts, inspiring among us. Although the whole section only lasted for half an hour, it was just an activity to wind up, I did think this part was quite challenging and appreciative where I found all of us were doing so well. We were progressing and were much confident than before…keke…it’s really nice ^U^

  • 31th March, 2010 - HONR 202 Our seventh lecture

The Honors College class before the Easter holiday we had some group discussions and drama role play within the lesson. Just like the previous classes, we usually had a part of songs and videos for the opening of the class. I think it is quite effective to act as an antipasto for the whole class. Like a warm briefing, it helped in giving us buffing time to get ready to prepare ourselves. Not coming to class in status of being drained up, music can relax our tightening nerves and slack off our minds.

    310320101957

    310320101965

    310320101958

The most exciting part out of the entire class is the performance section of each group. We were given five minutes to prepare a minute show. Frankly speaking, it demanded a high efficiency of work allocation and distribution. Maybe because it was the first time we had to manage a presentation in such a short preparation time, we were lack of experience thus I found myself didn’t deal it well. Somehow it was a bit rush and loose, however, we all enjoyed the process and proceedings.

    310320101974

Through this type of the activities held, each of us is able to practice how to speak out in front of groups of people and then gradually present our ideas and opinions fluently to the public.

(this best suits what our classmates and I need in the HC....XP)

    310320101984

    310320101986

Speak and stand out confidently in front of public - It is my objective I aim to achieve through the succession of the Honors College classes. I understood that a good discourse required proper instant responses as well as reactions. Thus, from now on, I would like to practice more by means of taking part as representatives or other ways in form of presentations.

I hope the day will come soon ^o^

Besides, the previous class had reminded me of the purpose for us to stay in the Honors College. It encouraged all of us to have a self-reflection on what we have to strive for in the coming future in the HC. Prof. Udani had mentioned that we were not here simply waiting or expecting to study abroad, instead, we are here to take privileges. We are here to grasp and take chances, building up ourselves fully to be a leader in every round.

So let us think seriously what things we do need to carry out to stay here. Consider what we lack of, but others possess while we can learn from them. Mind our attitudes towards everything we come across.

    310320101989

Leadership is to be build, but not born instinct. =]
